Award Winning - North County Transit District Sprinter Rail line
Completed in 2008, the NCTD Sprinter is a 22-mile commuter rail corridor connecting San Diego’s north county cities of Oceanside, Vista, San Marcos, and Escondido. Wimmer Yamada and Caughey developed low water-use, water conserving landscape designs for the 15 stations and maintenance facility located along the rail’s corridor. Today, 2-1/2 years after completion, the plant material along the rail line stations has developed beautifully into mature, sustainable landscapes. The project has received many accolades including a 2008 Orchid award for sustainability as well as the 2009 national “Project of the Year” award from the American Public Works Association.
