Alga Norte Community Park finally awarded!

Exciting news!

After ten years of design development and support by the local community, Alga Norte Community Park, in Carlsbad, California  has been approved for construction.

Wimmer Yamada and Caughey, selected as the prime park designer in 2001, began conceptual design in 2002, completed plan documents in 2008, and will now provide design oversight during construction of the 33-acre park.

Construction for the park was approved, at a cost of $26 million, and was awarded to TB Penick under a design build contract which will save the City of Carlsbad close to $6 million from the original budget.

Pat Caughey, Principal-in-Charge for the project,  is quoted as saying “The construction of Alga Norte Community Park, which includes an aquatics complex, three ball fields, skate park, dog park and other amenities for the local community, is a landmark project the City of Carlsbad will be proud of for decades to come.
