Receiving the chapter's highest award was Del Sur Community in the category of Residential/Multi-Family Design by the design team of Wimmer Yamada and Caughey and VITA Planning Landscape Architecture. 

“This prestigious award is the result of almost twenty year’s effort in developing the landscape theme for Black Mountain Ranch and Del Sur. We graciously thank our client Fred Maas and his staff for selecting Wimmer Yamada and Caughey and Vita Landscape Architecture to create the vision and implement a truly sustainable landscape design” said Pat Caughey, President of Wimmer Yamada and Caughey.

The landscape architecture efforts secure the project's environmental responsibility and integrity while it educates the public awareness of the natural landscape, and provides a strong identity to its residents.  Wise planning and artful design are achieved by the understanding and complimenting of the natural context of land.

Del Sur has been recognized as the "Sustainable Community of the Year" by the BIA of Southern California and was named the "Smart Growth Project of 2006" by the Urban Land Institute of San Diego.
